Children’s illustrator and designer Lesley Breen Withrow is co-author of the book Illustrating Children’s Picture Books, 200 pages of art instruction and storytelling insight from international illustrators, writers, and other experts to be published around the world by RotoVision and F+W Media in December 2009.

Lesley illustrated Tooth Fairy Tales, to be published by Potter Style in early 2010 as well as My First Calculator Book, to be published by Tormont in early 2010. Scholastic’s innovative Read and Rise e-zine will feature Lesley’s “sounds like” activity cards. Her illustrations and designs also formed the basis for a line of Experience kits from Learning Horizons.

Lesley is a former creative planner and designer for Paramount Cards. Her Louie Award-winning greeting-card work spans custom collections (including Sharing the Faith for Gartner Greetings), individual titles, and gift products. She often combines digital and traditional media and techniques in her work.

“My favorite projects incorporate lively colors, textures, and patterns, and are specially suited for a very young and inquisitive audience. Animals, kids in action, multicultural subjects, whimsical settings … I love to bring a fun and energetic spirit to all of my pictures and designs!”

Lesley—who lives in Rhode Island with her husband, daughter, and a little black cat—earned a certificate in children’s illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design. She holds a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation of art and architecture from Roger Williams University. She is the winner of the 2006 Ann Barrow Illustrators Scholarship and a 2005 SCBWI Illustrators Contest.
